Building the Future

Executive Director of Alumni & Events Jenny DellFollowing the close of the 2013-2014 academic year, we bade adieu to the year-long celebration that marked Brenau’s 135th anniversary. It was a year of great milestones which culminated in the return of the Brenau Gala in March and the largest Alumnae Reunion Weekend attendance in recent memory. The sisters of Delta Delta Delta celebrated 100 years on the Brenau campus, alumnae of the Academy reunited to commemorate its founding 85 years ago and the School of Nursing marked 50 years of graduating superior nurses.

It is now time to look toward the future. With the completion of renovations to the Brenau Downtown Center (the final component of the silent phase of the capital campaign), the university is now transitioning into the next public phase of the campaign. Focused largely on a women’s initiative and supporting our health sciences, this phase includes the following  projects:

• Construction of four new sorority houses along Prior Street

• Renovation and rejuvenation of two current sorority houses

• Transition of Sorority Circle into a park-like pedestrian green space

• Construction of a new 70-90 student dormitory, also on Prior Street

• Construction of a 16-acre athletic complex off Jesse Jewell Parkway, just north of campus

• Strengthening of annual and endowed student scholarship programs, specifically for women

• Development of women’s leadership programs across all education platforms

• Expansion of endowments for top-quality faculty and student research

• Enhancements to rehabilitative science programs

• Development of clinical experiences and a community physical therapy clinic in the Downtown Center

• Educational technology enhancements and simulators

• Construction of a 10-station human anatomy lab for all science students

More information about some of these efforts can be found elsewhere in this issue and on the Brenau website. To take an active role in supporting these exciting projects and initiatives, visit brenau.edu/giving or contact Matt Thomas, vice president for external relations, at 770.718.5309.

On behalf of all Brenau faculty and staff, I wish each one of you sincere congratulations. Without your years of dedication to a Liberal Arts education, your passion for learning and your ongoing support for the mission of Brenau University, we wouldn’t have such a glorious past to commemorate – nor such a bright, bold future ahead.

Here’s to the next 135 years!
