Extraordinary Times For Extraordinary Lives

Brenau University President Anne Skleder has hit the ground running during her time at Brenau as she has hosted over 25 events on campus and across the country. More than 700 alumni and friends participated in the events, some in person and many — as the coronavirus made its presence felt — in a virtual format, including alumni reunion weekend last spring.

“I am overwhelmed by the hospitality, openness, energy and the strong historic heart of Brenau University that is always forward looking,” Skleder says. “All of these qualities will help guide us as we chart our course forward in challenging students to live extraordinary lives of personal and professional fulfillment.”

Here’s a sample of the energy and excitement Skleder has enjoyed while listening and learning about Brenau.

I’ve always believed that if a place has soul, it remains alive forever. With Anne Skleder’s immediate embrace and immersion in our beloved university from her first day on the job, the soul of Brenau is thriving even during challenging times! Her understanding of the Brenau Ideal, coupled with her genuine devotion to education, makes her the president that will inspire us all to build something greater than we could have imagined.

Dr. Skleder tremendously impacted student life during her first year because of her willingness to listen and clearly interpret the needs of all students. During every meeting, Dr. S. brought her warm smile and signature notepad, but most importantly she brought to the table her authenticity and compassion. She was fully engaged in every conversation, seeking to understand not only my concerns but the concerns of many. She was and still is dedicated to forging the path for a progressive university that honors its rich traditions, one that past and future generations can be proud of.

Brenau has been positively impacted by President Skleder’s presence this past year. She has promoted a culture of kindness in every conceivable way. We are drawn to the Brenau Ideal regularly, to be reminded of the social justice we want to promote in the university, community and world. She works tirelessly to connect with every institutional stakeholder and spends much time listening before acting. I am proud of the initiatives that are ongoing and prioritized by the president. I am excited to see data analysis, communication, shared governance and excellence in all that we do held high with this administration. To accomplish what she has in her first year of presidency, during a global pandemic that has heavily impacted higher education, is truly incredible. I can’t wait to see where we are in another year.

The party was one of many events during the “G” Year of the GOLD Program, which focused on gender, celebrating sisterhood and empowering women.

A Virtual Alumnae Reunion was held April 24-25. Zoom sessions replaced Brenau’s traditional Alumnae Reunion Weekend due to COVID-19.
