Celebrating the Past, Creating the Future

Brenau truly has a rich history, and I love to flip through old annuals and read about the traditions that have made our alma mater what it is today and the alumni who have left lasting legacies. My favorite piece to read is the Brenau Ideal written by H.J. Pearce:

To find satisfaction in being rather than in seeming;
To find joy in doing rather than in dreaming;
To be prepared for service thereby earning the right to be served;
To be pure in heart, vigorous in mind, discreet in action;
To love deeply, fear nothing, hate never;
To enjoy the freedom which comes from knowledge of the “Truth;”
To be modestly conscious of the limitations of human knowledge
And serenely confident of the limitless reaches of human endeavor –
This is the ideal of Brenau.

In 2018, we celebrate 140 years of educating women at the Women’s College of Brenau University. By our very existence, Brenau is genuinely rare – with only 39 women’s colleges left in the United States, we continue to thrive. The benefits of attending a women’s college are numerous and no surprise to our alumnae. While we as an institution have made great strides to become the university we are today with a coeducational undergraduate and graduate college, we continue to keep the Women’s College at the forefront of all we do. The institution we are today truly derives from its women’s college roots.

So, as we celebrate our rich, adaptive 140-year history throughout this year, let’s look to what the next 140 years will hold. Let’s continue to celebrate our past while we forge the way for the future of women’s education. This year, be proud to be a Brenau Woman!

Save the Date for some of our celebratory events:

April 13 & 14: Alumnae Reunion Weekend & May Day. Registration now open.

We hope to see you back on the Gainesville campus this year.
