From playmaker to healer
During her junior year on the soccer team at Dawson County High School in North Georgia, Brenau Scholar Taylor Bennett scored 10 goals and had 18 assists. She was the team captain and a first-team selection to all-region and all-area squads. She led the Dawson County Tigers to a Sweet 16 spot in the state tournament and won the school’s offensive Most Valuable Player award. By the time she was sidelined by an injury in her senior year, she had scored 19 goals and 14 assists in just 12 games and still graduated with a school record. When she arrived on campus as a Brenau Scholar, she swapped the Dawson County Tigers maroon and gold for the Brenau Golden Tigers black and gold as middle forward.
However, the 18-year-old has other interests. In high school, she took general med classes and interned at a local doctor’s office. She enrolled in Brenau’s pre-physician assistant program. Her inspiration came early, when she heard a Doctors without Borders speaker at church and thought, “How cool would it be if I became a doctor and went overseas and helped kids?”
