Four Brenau University teams won Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships this spring in the university’s second year competing in the conference.
The swim team won its second consecutive championship in February, and head coach Nate Rhoades was named AAC Coach of the Year.
Top-seeded tennis finished the regular reason with an 8-0 record and won the AAC Championship in April. It was also the Golden Tigers’ second consecutive title, and head coach Andre Ferreira won his second straight AAC Coach of the Year award. Several players were named to the AAC All-Conference team, including AAC Freshman of the Year Evelin Gouveia, Juana Zambrano, Peeraya Charoensirisutthikul and Rebecca Pijls, WC ’19. Zambrano and Gouveia were also named to the All-Freshman team.
The fourth-seeded softball team won its first AAC Championship and the program’s fourth conference crown overall. Faith Grooms was named tournament MVP. Jessica Rathje, WC ’19, Shelton Kendrix, Autumn Conaway, Alyssa Maisonet and Grooms were on the All-Tournament team.
The track and field team also won its first AAC Championship and its sixth title in the eight-year history of the program, including five straight Southern States Athletic Conference titles from 2013-17.
