Brenau Scholar: Anna Rose

Anna Rose has plunged headlong into her freshman year at Brenau. A biology major from Mobile, Alabama, she’s already had an impressive start to both her swimming and academic careers at Brenau.

At the Converse Invitational in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in October, Rose’s 400-yard medley relay team took first place. Rose also took first in the 100 backstroke, second in the 50 and 100 freestyles and third in the 200 backstroke.

Rose is just as at home with her teammates on land as she is in the water. “My favorite thing at Brenau so far has been to get to know all the girls on the swim team with me,” Rose says. “I have already made friends I know will last a lifetime, and I have made memories I definitely won’t forget.”

As natural as she is in the pool, Rose’s pursuits in biology come just as fluidly. Her sophomore year at McGill-Toolen High School in Mobile, she took online classes, mastering the entire curriculum for the year on her own. She found biology so engaging, she decided to pursue a degree in the field.

With its broad-based biology curriculum and nationally ranked swim team, Rose knew Brenau was the perfect fit. Earning the title of Brenau Scholar only solidified her decision to attend.

“Being a Brenau Scholar is everything to me,” Rose said. “I was so honored to be chosen as one of the recipients this year, and I constantly strive to be someone that people will be proud of, and being a Brenau Scholar is just one more step toward being the best I can be.”

Rose, who plans find her own way of giving back to the school and the local community, hopes to return to Mobile after graduation to further her education and become a biology teacher. She knows her years at Brenau will be a defining period of her life. “I know that everyone here is genuinely invested in my success over the next four years,” she says. “To me that is the most important thing in picking a college.”
